Glen Bergeron PhD CAT(C)
Glen is a professor and the chair of the Department of Kinesiology and Applied Health at The University of Winnipeg. He has a BPE from University of Manitoba in 1973, an MSC from the University of Alberta in 1978 and a PhD from the University of Manitoba in 1992. He became certified with the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association (CATA) in 1975, and has served on the Canadian Medical team for five Olympic Games, most recently at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Stuart Klassen
Stuart is an entrepreneur in the fitness industry as the owner of MORFIT Training Centre (fitness facility) and co-owner of White Lion Athletics (fitness equipment supplier). As a certified Exercise Physiologist he has had the opportunity to work directly with a full spectrum of clients with diverse abilities and needs. Stuart is a course instructor and evaluator for the Manitoba Fitness Council. Prior to starting his career in fitness, Stuart completed his Exercise Science degree at the University of Winnipeg.
Sheena Kilpatrick
She has been teaching fitness classes since 1997. She graduated from Queen’s University with a Bachelor of Physical and Health Education. Sheena went on to complete her 500 hour Hatha/Ashtanga Yoga Instructor in India. She also completed additional 50 hours of yoga training in Yin Yoga with Bernie Clark, 20 hours in Restorative Yoga and 75 hours in Pre and Post Natal Yoga. She is also a fully certified STOTT Pilates instructor and Exercise Physiologist (CSEP) and Personal Trainer. Sheena is an Instructor Trainer with the Manitoba Fitness Council offering many courses across the province. She also teaches a 200 hour Canadian Yoga Alliance instructor program.
Bonnie Hopps
She has been certified by Dr. Paul Lam in Tai Chi for Arthritis Instructor Update Course, Tai Chi for Arthritis Part II Course, and Tai Chi for Diabetes Instructor’s Course. She is also certified as an Arthritis Foundation Exercise Instructor/Trainer, Arthritis Foundation Aquatic Instructor/Trainer. Bonnie has been certified for many years with the Manitoba Fitness Council.
Stephanie Jeffrey
Holds over 20 years of experience in recreation, fitness, and community development. She believes heavily in not only talking about physical activity but getting out and being active. In addition to her role as the Executive Director of the Manitoba Fitness Council, she is a certified fitness leader, leading classes in Resistance Training, Aquafitness and Yoga weekly. She created “office workouts” and loves to share her passion for being active.
Annabel Scott, B.A (Hons) and B.Comm (Hons)
She is owner of Pilates Manitoba Inc in Winnipeg. Pilates Manitoba is Winnipeg’s innovative, cutting-edge body therapy and movement education studio, as well as the leader in all things Pilates since 2002. Annabel is Manitoba Fitness Council certified, Stott® Mat and Reformer certified, Stott® Injuries and Special Populations certified, Gyrotonic® certified, and Yamuna Body Rolling® certified. Annabel is Manitoba’s first and only 5 levels MELT trained connective tissue specialist. She is MELT® Method Hand & Foot,MELT Length, MELT Strength, MELT for Pilates and Yoga trained and also MELT Neuro-Strength trained. She is also Manitoba’s first and only ELDOA trained specialist. Annabel is the creator of Plus Size Fitness a.k.a Size Beautiful Fitness.
Ruth Reis
She has a love of fitness and teaching that has spanned over 30 years. After training to be an instructor in 1982, she began teaching employee fitness classes. She followed this by completing her provincial certification in 1985, and has since continued her education with Manitoba Fitness Council (MFC). She has pursued interests in martial arts, where she attained her 1st Dan black belt in TaeKwonDo in 1986 and her 3rd Dan in 2011. Yoga began in 2000 followed by education and training with Maureen Rae Studios. Today, Ruth is an MFC yoga certified instructor, teaching at various venues in Winnipeg including the CNIB and her own private studio.
Christine van der Hoek CPT, CFP
MFC’s Fitness Leader of the Year 2005 is an instructor, trainer, educator, mountain biker, adventure traveler, triathlete, and 4-time Ironman finisher. Christine has been involved professionally and recreationally in fitness for 27 years. Owner of The Training Zone and manager of fitness programs at Canada’s largest medical fitness facility (Wellness Institute), she loves sharing ideas with other leaders, clients and participants in relation to their health and wellness goals. She hass consulted in China and taught in Jamaica and Mexico and is always excited about being able to present to diverse groups.
Heather Hiscock
She is a Training Coordinator at the Society for Manitobans with Disabilities in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Heather develops and delivers experiential Disability Awareness workshops to people of all ages in schools, businesses, and workplaces. In addition, she is a Manitoba Fitness Council Aquatic Fitness Instructor and an active volunteer within the non-profit sector.
Jan Keryluk
She is a Wellness Facilitator on the Community Wellness Team for the Interlake-Eastern Regional Health Authority. Within her role, Jan delivers health promotion classes along with chronic disease and injury prevention programs for schools, community groups, and work places.. The Manitoba Fitness Council recognized her as Fitness Leader of the Year in 2012. She also received the Healthy Living Award in 2006 from the Reh-Fit Centre Foundation of Winnipeg and the Women and Sport Breakthrough Award in 2002 from the Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women in Sport (CAAWS). I am celebrating 15 years as a certified fitness leader and I’m still loving every minute of it! Fitness classes are amazing opportunities to share my passion for movement to music. My goal is to help you improve your fitness level and to keep it FUN!”
